1.4016 / DIN X6Cr17 – AISI 430 – UNS S43000
1.4016 / AISI 430 / DIN X6Cr17 quality stainless steels are low carbon and chromium content stainless steels that are classified as ferritic. Weldability of stainless steels of this quality is limited. 1.4016 / AISI 430 / DIN X6Cr17 grade stainless steels are cheaper than 300 series stainless steels because they do not contain nickel and molybdenum. Where this quality material is used, they provide a good surface appearance. Since it does not contain nickel, it may become magnetized. It has low corrosion resistance. It is known for its suitability for polishing (polishing) and shaping.
Areas of application of 1.4016 / AISI 430 / DIN X6Cr17 are generally rail and road vehicles, container construction, warehouse and transport equipment for the sugar industry, sound absorbing, coal mining.
Cold forming with low deformation can be easily done above room temperature. Sharp chamfers parallel to the rolling direction should be avoided. Plates with thicker and / or more deformation must be preheated to 200-400 ° C. If possible, hot forming at 700 - 900 ° C may be required. Corrosion resistance is affected by the annealing colors formed after hot forming or welding or spotting. These must be removed by pickling (pickling solution), grinding or sandblasting. Only non-ferrous tools are allowed for these studies. The machining is no different from machining unalloyed carbon steels with comparable or corresponding strength.
According to DIN EN 10095, supplement D material 1.4016 is assumed to be heat resistant.
