1.3917 / UNS K94100 – FeNi42 – ALLOY 42
UNS K94100 / W. Nr. 1.3917 / Alloy 42 / Invar 42 is a binary nickel-iron alloy containing 42% nickel. It has a low and nominally constant expansion coefficient in the range of 20-300 ° C (85-570 ° F). Used for glass sealing applications in aerospace composites, thermostat rods, semiconductor lead frames, thermostatic bi-metal strip and microelectronic components, vacuum devices and electric lamp bulbs.
Where maximum dimensional stability is required 1.3917 / Alloy 42 / Invar 42 should be used in the annealed condition. Annealing can be performed in a protective atmosphere in the range of 850-1000 ° C (1560-1830 ° F).
1.3917 / Alloy 42 / Invar 42 can be hot or cold worked, turned and formed by processes similar to those used for austenitic stainless steels.
1.3917 / Alloy 42 / Invar 42 should be machined in the annealed condition using high speed steel or tungsten carbide tipped tools.
