2.4973 / UNS N07041 – ALLOY 41 – RENE 41
2.4973 / Alloy 41 / Rene 41 is an age hardening nickel-based superalloy with exceptional strength from room temperature to about 1600 ° F. The alloy is susceptible to stress age cracking during welding. 2.4973 / Alloy 41 / Rene 41 sound sources can be made by the resistance and electron beam methods. It requires good connection and cooling via copper back-up rods or water-cooled fixtures. 2.4973 / Alloy 41 / Rene 41 should be completely solution treated prior to welding. Post-weld assembly should be solution treated with rapid heating and cooling rates in the range of 1200-1600 ° F followed by aging
2.4973 / Alloy 41 / Rene 41 mechanical properties vary with solution and aging processes. Higher solution temperatures result in better room temperature ductility and high temperature shear rupture strength. Low solution temperatures provide higher tensile strength. The two commonly used heat treatments for 2.4973 / Alloy 41 / Rene 41 are:
1. Solution operation: 2150 ° F 4 hours, air cooled. Age: 4 hours reheat 1650 ° F, air cooled.
2. Solution operation: 1975 ° F for 4 hours, air cool. Age: 16 hours reheat, air cooled.
2.4973 / Alloy 41 / Rene 41 resists oxidation up to 1800 ° F. Jet engine hot components, missile components, bolting and springs are some application areas.
