1.4034 / DIN X46Cr13 – AISI 420C – UNS S42000

1.4034 / AISI 420 C is characterized by high hardenability combined with good corrosion resistance in moderately corrosive environments. It can be hardened more than 1.4031 due to its high carbon content. It is used in the quenched and tempered condition and is ideal for the production of cutting tools and roller bearings due to its high hardness. Corrosion resistance can also be improved by grinding or polishing the surface. Used in mechanical engineering field, medicine and pharmaceutical industry, cutlery industry.

According to directional analysis, the chromium content of stainless martensitic material 1.4034 or X46Cr13 is 12.5-14.5% and the carbon content is 0.50% maximum.

1.4034 / AISI 420C grade is generally forged between 1.100 ° C and 800 ° C. The material is first preheated in a two-step process. Heating is carried out slowly to a temperature above 800 ° C. In the second stage, there is a further, faster heating up to 1,150 - 1,050 ° C. Cooling takes place in the oven or dry ash or in a comparable environment that allows slow cooling.

1.4034 / AISI 420 C steel can be hardened by heating to 1,050 ° C followed by rapid cooling in air or oil. After hardening and stress relieving at 200 ° C, the hardness should not exceed 55 HRC (570 HB).

The information given in this data sheet about the condition or availability of the material is not a guarantee for its properties, it only serves as an explanation. The information provided as advice is consistent with our own experience as well as general experience. No guarantee is given for the processing and application results of the products.
